When I got my first semi-professional camera in 2008, I always photographed objects in nature. Why? Because it wouldn't judge how well (or not well) the final image looked. A flower wouldn't cringe because one petal didn't look absolutely perfect, & I imagined that if I began working with people as my subject, we would both be disappointed.
But I tried it anyway! I photographed my first human subjects in 2009, and you know what? Those images still remain some of my most favorite I have ever taken. I was pleasantly surprised with the results & continued to work & shape my craft in portraiture. In 2010, I created the name Red Zebra as a business platform for weddings, portraiture, & handmade goodies. The name was concise, easy to spell, & easy to share. While I envied photographers who had eloquent & easy-to-pronounce names, I didn't see Megan Tetrault taking off. My full name is Megan Elizabeth Tetrault -- "Tetrault" being the reason I opted for the business name "Red Zebra".
As I began to develop as an artist & discover new goals that I saw for my future in art, it became apparent that I needed a business makeover. I needed to start taking myself seriously as an artist if I ever hoped to make it in the art world & be successful. I started yearning for my own name in watermarks of my artwork, Red Zebra was too anonymous! Given past (and who knows, maybe future!) name changes, frequent misspellings & mispronunciation of my maiden name, I really did not want to use my maiden name at all... so I haven't!
Megan Elizabeth is the former Red Zebra & I could not be more thrilled about it! This has been such a project for me, juggling multiple jobs & trying to squeeze in time for myself personally & professionally. But I am so proud to announce that Megan Elizabeth is here!
